New Year, New Mindset
Brunch workshop @Heidi Balham
On Saturday 21st January, I hosted a New Year, New Mindset brunch workshop at Heidi in Balham. It was a goal setting workshop with 16 incredible women coming together to have a morning to themselves, set goals and eat delicious brunch.
When I talk about New Year, New Mindset - it’s because I don’t subscribe to the New Year New, You nonsense! We are all fabulous as we are, but we may have goals and growth that we want to achieve which requires a different mindset to approach and achieve them - and that was what this was all about.
For me, setting goals for the New Year involves a 3 step process:
Reflect back on past 12mths
Visualise exercise for future
SMART-E goal setting
REFLECT
When we take the time and space to reflect back on our achievements, we can:
connect to self
gain clarity
consider what we value as important
think about aspirations
build self confidence and self belief
In a reflection exercise for considering achievements there are 3 key Qs to answer:
What were your top 3 achievements last year?
What created energy for you? What lit you up in the past 12mths?
What was the greatest challenge that you overcame?
VISULISATION
Visualisation is a really powerful tool - When we create an experience in our mind our brain acts as if it is really happening - there’s a lot of neuroscience behind this and it’s why top athletes will always visualise their races before they run them. It’s proven that regular visualisation of goals helps your subconscious to seek out opportunities in line with those you have imagined, and to filter out the unwanted ones.
So it’s a good idea to sit and imagine where you want to be in a future point in time, say 5 years forwards, and to paint the picture of your ideal version of you and your life and answer these 4 Qs:
What does life look like and where do you see yourself?
What are your priorities?
What do you love about your future life?
How are you spending your (i) time, (ii) money and (iii) energy?
SMART-E Goals
SMART-E is the criteria to use to define our goals - they are meant to be exciting and inspiring!! Hence the “E” on the end of the well known SMART acronym.
Using the Visualisation exercise as where you want to be, we can then look at the reality now to see the gap, the change that is needed - And create a SMARTE goal that will take you just one step closer to it - it’s all about small steps. We’re not going to go from the bottom of the staircase to the top in 1 move, we need to break it down into small manageable steps - and take it one step at a time. The difference between the reality and the one step closer will form your action plan to achieve that SMART-E goal!
If you’d like help setting your SMARTE goals and with the visualisation exercise then please book a call with me to discuss more!
