My Word of the Year: Action

(and Why Small Steps Matter)

For 2025, I've chosen "Action" as my guiding word. Now, it might seem simple - perhaps even obvious as something I should be doing anyway - but for me, it's about a shift in mindset.

Last year I let good intentions languish in the realm of "one day soon, but not quite yet" . So, this year, I'm committing to translating those intentions into concrete, actionable steps.

It's VERY easy to get caught up in the idea of grand, life-altering changes. But true progress often comes from a series of small, consistent actions. Think about it:

  • Learning a new language: It's not about magically becoming fluent overnight. It's about those 10 minutes of daily Duolingo Spanish, and the gradual accumulation of vocabulary and grammar over weeks and months.

  • Improving your fitness: It's not about instantly becoming a marathon runner (that’s never gonna happen for me, let alone overnight!). BUT it is about those daily walks, the weekly reformer Pilates sessions, and the consistent effort to nourish our body with healthy food - and water.

  • Building stronger relationships: It's not about grand gestures every day. It's about the daily check-ins, the active listening, and the consistent effort to show friendship, love and appreciation.

Action, in this context, isn't about impulsive decisions or reckless abandon. It's about mindful, consistent effort. It's about breaking down large, intimidating goals into smaller, more manageable steps. It's about showing up for yourself, day in and day out.

So, this year, I'm challenging myself to:

  • Identify my top priorities: What truly matters to me? What do I want to achieve?

  • Break down those goals into smaller, actionable steps: What can I do today, this week, this month to move closer to my goals?

  • Celebrate small wins: Acknowledge and appreciate the progress I'm making, no matter how small.

  • Embrace imperfection: Understand that setbacks are inevitable. Learn from them and keep moving forward.

I'm excited to see what I can achieve with consistent, focused action. I believe that even small, repeated actions have the power to create significant change. I really do becuase I have done it before and I see so many clients do it too!

What's your word of the year? I'd love to hear how you plan to make it a reality.
